Meet Lindsey Rogers, Lafayette's Favorite Family Photographer!
Posted by Feltman Brothers on 7th Oct 2024
For years, we've been receiving the most gorgeous photos from Lindsey Rogers, a southern girl based out of Crowley, Louisiana. Lindsey captures timeless, heartwarming moments and we're excited to introduce her to the Feltman Family.
Can you share a little about your journey into newborn and family photography? What drew you to this in the first place?
I was in 7th grade when I purchased my first 35mm camera. I always loved dressing up and photographing the children I babysat. Also, my parents were foster parents for newborns, so growing up we would always have a baby in the house. I would take photographs of them and gift them to the adoptive parents. That was where my first love for photography began, with babies. I finished with a Masters in Architecture, but my true love of capturing timeless moments on film never ended, so I made a career switch in my mid-twenties and haven't looked back since.
What are your top tips for parents preparing for a newborn or family photoshoot?
Had you asked me this 10 years ago when I started, my answer would be different. Now a mom of two littles, I understand the stress of photoshoot days!
I always say to bring your kiddos well-rested, have a snack beforehand, and bring your best smiles, I'll do the rest. Happiness with your family is the key to a successful session.
What are your best tips for parents to ensure they baby is comfortable and happy during the session?
A full belly! A full feeding helps them sleep and be content. Also, having my newborns take a bath before sometimes helps them relax and sleep for their session. For older children, I suggest a snack before, and we work around toddler nap schedule.
How do you create a relaxed atmosphere during a session?
For a newborn session, I typically warm the room. The baby if not swaddled they can get cold easily so setting the room to a warmer temperature helps them sleep soundly. I also love my white noise app or the 'Shusher' sound machine. I always sing my babies to sleep, I'm famous for singing The Sound of Music and they go right to sleep!
What advice do you have for parents choosing outfits for their newborn session?
I have collected styles for 10+ years of custom heirlooms. My style is traditional and timeless. If they want to borrow from my Curated Closet, they will find many custom heirlooms along with many vintage pieces and new Feltman Brothers pieces. If they have a daygown and or bonnet that is their own, I suggest they bring it for sentimental value.
Can you share some of your favorite Feltman outfits that photograph well?
My love for a daygown and bonnet runs deep, for both boy and girl. I have many that I use on rotation depending on what the parent likes. Sometimes it comes down to coordinating with big sister/brother so I really appreciate that the Feltman Brothers line can allow me to match sibling sets.
What tips can you share for first-time clients when planning a photoshoot?
1) Ask your photographer for a link to an entire gallery. This will give you an idea of what they can expect with your family. Poses, lighting, and outfits usually are similar styles.
2) Plan location in advance. Think about the time of year, the temperature, and where you plan on displaying your images. (If you want a white indoor studio, lush green grass, or mossy oaks, this all plays into your final images)
3) Choose a wardrobe for your family with your photographer. If hiring a professional, most likely they will have suggestions and help you choose pieces that photograph best. Ask if they have a client closet to choose from.
4) Feed your family beforehand! Bring water if it is an outdoor location.
5) Come with your best smile! My go-to saying is ABS!!! ( Always be smiling!) even if the kids are acting, well... like kids, or the baby is crying, do not get flustered and enjoy the moment. Sessions pass quickly so make memories of the time you have with your little ones
How do you ensure that your clients have the best possible experience?
Preparation. I want to take all of the work off the hands of the parents. I want each family to come and know we will play and have a good time knowing that I took care of all of the details.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time when you’re not photographing newborns and families?
I love spending time with my family and friends. My babies are now 2 and 5 months so I'm in the thick of it! Loving every moment I get being a mom and a business owner.
My love for children's clothes never ends. I enjoy creating custom clothes with Trunk Shows and I picked up doing hand embroidery this year. I love to hand sew details on my children's clothing such as their names or initials.
After families receive their gorgeous photos, are you there to guide them on how to use/print/display?
Yes! I do In-Person sales so each family comes into my studio for a viewing of their gallery. We usually have a charcuterie board and cocktails and watch their slideshow of portraits. I offer a variety of products such as: birth announcements, heirloom albums, custom framing, print boxes, etc.
Thank you, Lindsey, for sharing your background story and advice for parents!
